MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

When a student finally understands a concept and I see how proud and successful they are of their accomplishment is what drives me to become an educator. Seeing a student make a connection to a concept through critical thinking and the arts is exciting and is the most rewarding part of teaching. Part of my philosophy is ensuring each student feels included and creative as a strong part of my own teaching. Engaging students through the art of dance and allowing students to inspire each other is an important aspect. I want to make sure my teaching is student centered and focuses on the students themselves. Teaching is about making meaningful connection and relationships that resonates with students for years to come. Students need to feel supported and feel like they are able to put trust and faith in me.

As a young upcoming educator, I understand the need to bring technology into the classroom to accommodate learning skills and student interests. Within my classroom technological devices such as: iPads, Laptops, iPods and phones are encouraged within the classroom if used appropriately. If students feel more comfortable typing notes than writing notes I support and encourage the best possible learning within my classroom. Connected, is my teaching space. I want all my students to feel comfortable but most importantly safe in my classroom. Making sure I establish a safe space will provide students with the ability to completely open and speak freely in the classroom.

Part of my teaching is acknowledging each and every student's strength and weakness. Understanding Blooms Taxonomy and the ways of thinking, I understand each and every student is different and unique in their own way. My main goal is to find ways to engage and critically encourage participation in multiple ways of learning. Each lesson is designed to fit student’s needs, student’s experiences, student’s interests. This will ensure each student feels apart of the entire teaching process, the entire class and school community.

Overall, I want to provide the most positive, enthusiastic and engaging classroom possible. In doing so, teaching will benefit not solely myself but the students. They will be able to grasp concepts, think critically in and out of the classroom, engage in fulfilling relationships with peers, teachers and staff that will provide them with open, safe and readily available support. My philosophy focuses on the students and it is my duty to do everything possible to provide my students with the best possible life experiences that will aid them in their future endeavors.
